Dan Sowder, P.E., is a co-founder and Principal of Sound Grid Partners, an analysis, engineering, and advisory firm that supports utilities and developers with optimal system design and grid integration for distributed energy resources. Dan began his career as a nuclear submarine officer in the U.S. Navy and then joined Duke Energy where he led the design and deployment of numerous energy storage projects. Dan joined 1Energy Systems, a BESS software and system integration start-up, where he contribute to BESS technology development and a successful acquisition. Post-acquisition, Dan served as VP of Power Systems Integration at Doosan GridTech where he was responsible for project delivery and engineering operations, supply chain, and analytics. Dan holds a bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering from the US Naval Academy, a master’s degree in engineering management from Old Dominion University, and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of North Carolina. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in electrical power systems and holds four patents related to solar and energy storage integration to the grid.
