Sr. Manager - Transmission Planning, Southern California Edison

Manuel Avendaño is the Senior Engineering Manager of Transmission Planning at Southern California Edison (SCE). Dr. Avendaño leads a team of engineering managers and engineers responsible for reliability, generator interconnection, and load studies within the CAISO-controlled SCE transmission system. His team initiates all transmission system expansion planning for reliability reasons and executes SCE's resource interconnection process under the FERC open-access principles. Previously, he was the Manager of Emerging Technology at Commonwealth Edison and Project Engineer at S&C Electric Company. Manuel earned a BSc and MSc degrees in Electrical Engineering in Mexico and the PhD in Electrical Engineering in the United Kingdom. He is Senior Member of IEEE and his past/current roles in IEEE PES include Chair of the Distribution Subcommittee, Chair of the Transmission Subcommittee, T&D Technical Committee Program Chair, and Co-Chair of the 2024 T&D Conference & Exposition.
